HI again

ON IZUMI'S NOMINATION

Thanks for all who heeded the initial call to express support for Izumi Aizu,
who has done a lot for our caucus since the beginning of WSIS, and who I think
would make a good addition to the Global Alliance...

I was wondering if there are any reservations still that would not allow the
Asia Caucus as a whole to get behind his nomination? I know that it is very hard
to get even a rough consensus from this list as it is semi-active only, but I
think we can still show Asian solidarity to his nomination--if not to the civil
society process, but also to the UN DESA process which is still open.

If for some reason though, there are any reservations about giving a Caucus
endorsement, please write me *off list* and I will be sure of communicating this
sentiment to the whole list in a manner which is appropriately confidential. In
other words, those who may feel awkward expressing reservations (of any kind) to
the whole group, may do so to me. And then I will take it as the group not
reaching a rough consensus, and we just continue the compilation of
organizational responses...

POST WSIS ASIA CAUCUS?

Which brings me to what is potentially an important important discussion:

since we all have gone on to a new "post-WSIS phase", I am keen to renewing an
ASian group to continue discussing, and I am not sure if it shiould still be via
this list.

My suggestion is for all of us on this list to make a personal/organizational
declaration on two points:

ONE: are you still keen to **join an Asian Caucus/network/family which will
operate under the post-WSIS context**-- concretely:
> WSIS Follow-up (i.e., Action lines)
> Internet Governance Forum and related discussions
> Global Alliance related discussions
+ national WSIS follow-up
+ other "digital divide"/comuniaction rights issues , from an ASIAN perspective?

TWO: do you think we should set up a new list for this purpose composed of all
who express interest in the above. Or should we maintain this list? (after all
anyone can choose to unsubscribe)

I think we should see the semi-inactivity of the list as an indication that
maybe its reason for being has apparently passed, and we may need to set up a
new group (probably with most of the same people), and define a new mandate for
such a group.

Thoughts?

Al
