Hi,
A workshop on ' Mapping Gender in the Information Society: From Reality
to Discourse' is being organized by WSIS Gender Caucus, IT for Change,
UNDP Asia Pacific Gender Mainstreaming Programme, UNDP Asia Pacific
Development Information Programme in partnership with IDRC and UNIFEM
South Asia.
Date: 31st October 2005,
Venue: Menam Riverside Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand.
The workshop will focus on gender in the information society, connecting
it to the broader debates on global policy negotiations and global
governance and how gender plays out in these debates. It is geared
towards taking stock of the complex relationship between gender and
ICTs, learning from experiences in different parts of the Asia Pacific.
It will also critically evaluate how global forums such as the WSIS have
framed issues related to gender and ICTs. We hope that the workshop will
create a space for wider participation of women in debates centered on
the information society. The workshop is spread over five sessions-
Session 1: Assessing Women's Empowerment in the Information Society -
presentation of research
Session 2: Response to the Research Findings presented in Session 1
Session 3: From Alternate to New Paradigms: What do voices from the
grassroots say?
Session 4: Mapping the Information Society Discourse - What does WSIS
mean for gender?
Session 5: Articulating gender concerns in the information society
See www.itforchange.net for details on the agenda and for more
