Hi Adam
This was an opportunity which was rushed and had a very small window to respond.
Not sure where the money is coming from (UNDP Tunisia?), but it was something
CONGO tried to facilitate.
Izumi and I were contacted separately late last week on this, with a very firm
deadline (yesterday) to recommend some names. They also sent an indicative list
of people from Asia who were active in Phase 2 (not a whole lot).
They requested us if we could endorse some of the names there. Based on being
active in Phase 2, we gave them 4 from Asia (Anita and Parminder from IT for
Change, Partha from Bytes for All, and Reza from BFES. We also submitted the
names of Onno Purbo (indonesia) but not sure if he had already funding to go;
also a couple of women, to have gender balance (Chat Ramilo, Mavic Balleza, and
Jac Kee).
Take note too that part of Asia is also the West Asia family of Amir.
I do support having someone from the Pacific Islands as well, but it may be too
late as Renate said they were meeting today. Good luck...
Al

>Dear Renate
>The Secretary-General of ITU, in response to
>your letter, has decided to give up to 20
>fellowships to civil society participants for
>the Summit in Tunisia and the resumed PrepCom-3.
>The fellowships would take into account the period 12-19 November.
>There is preference for applicants with prior
>involvement in WSIS and especially with
>involvement in the structure of civil society
>(family and caucus heads and deputies).
>Applicants should be from developing countries.
>A certain regional balance should be observed,
>e.g. 5 fellowships for applicants from Asia,
>Africa and Latin America each. The 5 remaining
>could be from any developing country.
>Tonight we have put guidelines for Government
>participants from LDCs on our website (with
>nearly the same text as for PrepCom-3, but
>limited to LDCs only). These guidelines will be
>applicable to the fellowships from ITU for civil
>society mutatis mutandis, but without the

>Given the short time left till to the Summit, we
