Subject: WSIS Bangladesh Events
Dear Colleagues:
WSIS Bangladesh events will start from 23 July with
regional consultations and ICT4D Project showcasing.
Five local level consultations will be held during the
month of August'2005 in five Divisional cities
(Chittagong, Khulna, Rajshahi, Barisal and Sylhet);
leaders from the private sector, civil society / NGO,
media, government and public representatives will be
invited to share the process and make them aware about
building an inclusive information society at the local
and regional level.
After the completion of the local consultations a
national level consultation will be held in Dhaka on 3
September 2005. National level policy makers, public
representatives, private sector, media, civil society /
NGOs will be invited in the meeting; Bangladesh Minister
for Science and ICT and State Minister for Foreign
Affairs are expected to be the Chief Guest and Special
Guest in the occasion. Executive Director of the WSIS
Executive Secretariat, Geneva has agreed to join in the
Dhaka meeting through a video conference.
All the recommendations will be documented and
disseminated among the policy makers at national level.
The final outcomes will lead Bangladesh process toward
the Tunis phase of WSIS in November 2005. A special
conference (side event) will be organized during the
summit in Tunis jointly by BFES and Microsoft. The
meeting will be collaborative efforts of
multistakeholder partnership from Bangladesh. The Leader
of the Delegation of Bangladesh will be the Chief Guest
in Tunis Bangladesh Day event.
