Dear friends and comrades
I just got this from Anita of IT for Change--it has a
draft CS statement for the Asia REgional Meeting on WSIS
currently going on in Tehran, Iran, organized by UN
ESCAP
Aside from participation issues (i.e., very little CS
participation and equity in the process), the draft
output paper (Regional Action Plan) is fatally flawed,
as documented in the attached document.
Please go over quickly--not sure if enough time for
comments....I have done so, and think it is a very
strong document. I understand an edited version is also
being circulated, which I will also send to the
list--but this document with this message is
substantially the same.
Initial signatories I have seen are our CS reps in
Tehran: Parminder Singh of IT for Change (India); Partha
Pratim S of Bytes for All/APC (Bangla Desh); Izumi Aizu
of Glocom (Japan)...
I am not sure if we (who are not physically present) can
add our signatures to the statement... please stay tuned
for developments and I will try to forward appropriate
messages from Iran to these lists.
Thanks
Al Alegre
