Dear all

Greetings of solidarity...

The UNDP APDIP is currently managing a program called Open Regional
Dialogue on Internet Governance (ORDIG), aimed to help gather regional
input for the WGIG /WSIS processes from the Asia Pacific region... Please
see: http://igov.apdip.net. Some of its initial activities included a 3
week online regional discussion and an online survey on regional IG
priorities in 12 Asian languages. Next up are developing research papers
on 5-6 issues relevant to the region... Dieter Zinnbauer is on top of
this effort together with Phet Sayo and of course APDIP head Shahid ...

APDIP has organized a 12 person Advisory Panel for the project. I was
privileged to be part of this multi-stakeholder group, which includes
government reps, private sector people, academics, and civil society.
(Members are here: http://igov.apdip.net/ap/ap_members_list/document_view
). Izumi Aizu recently of Glocom Japan , who some of you know, is also on
the Panel.

This group is having its first meeting on Friday and Saturday in Bkk to
talk about the initial activities of the project and how it will proceed.
I imagine there will be time for each member to present his/her take on
IG. For this I plan to use as a major reference the APC briefing paper
written by Adam Peake (who is informally advising APDIP I understand), and
structure my intervention around APC's statement to WGIG which she
circulated to APC last year ... I will seek to situate IG broadly and
mention global and regional spaces in which debates will have to happen
(WSIS, ICANN, WIPO, WTO, UNESCO + regional and national platforms)

It is in this light that I am calling on anyone who has some developed
thoughts on IG in general and the role of CS in particular, to help me
further prepare for the meeting. Any new references to new materials
(hopefully not too long) will also be welcome... but just want a quick
survey of what you think should be said from the point of view of civil
society in such a multi-stakeholder venue... any contributions will be
very very welcome...

I guess my inclusion in the group is less about my technical knowledge of
IG but more of my placement as CS advocate in the region.
Thanks in advance

Al Alegre
