Position: Channel Manager, Digital Opportunity Channel (DOC)
OneWorld South Asia (http://southasia.oneworld.net/), based in New Delhi,
India, is a part of the OneWorld Network (www.oneworld.net
<http://www.oneworld.net/>). It is an international non-profit network that
aims to use ICT tools for poverty alleviation, and promoting sustainable
development and human rights. OneWorld South Asia has more than 300
non-governmental organisations as its partners. Its key programmes are:
Development Communication, Grassroots Communication, Research and Analysis
and Pro-poor ICT Advocacy.
OneWorld Network's Digital Opportunity Channel (www.digitalopportunity.org
<http://www.digitalopportunity.org/>), managed by OWSA, seeks to showcase
how ICTs can be best used to end poverty and encourage sustainable
development.
We are looking for a Channel Manager for DOC. The position will be based in
New Delhi and shall report directly to the Centre Director. The Channel
Manager shall have the following responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities:
* Overall responsibility of DOC
* Revamping the channel from an information channel to a lead
knowledge portal on ICTs for development issues, including the Millennium
Development
Goals (MDGs)
* Leading an editorial team to execute design, structural and content
changes
* Negotiate collaboration with organisations to share content and
editing work on DOC
* Support the ICT Policy Advocacy initiatives of OWSA
Specific Responsibilities:
* Responsible for overall content of the Channel, ensuring that it
meets OneWorld's editorial standards
* Secure the participation of partner organisations and plan their
roles with the objective of handing over co-editorial responsibility of
sections of the channel
* Plan and implement the new structure of the channel and make it a
key space for mainstreaming of ICTs especially in the context of MDGs
* Develop a governance structure of the channel by setting up
editorial and management boards
* Involve, coordinate and supervise the roles of voluntary and
part-time editors in the channel
* Conceptualise, plan and implement offline and online activities
aimed at ICT Policy Advocacy
* Be responsible for the project reports and carry out evaluation and
impact assessment of the channel
* Take lead in building capacity among the channel coordinators to
communicate effectively on mainstreaming ICTs
Qualifications and Skills:
* Should be a postgraduate, preferably in knowledge management/
information sciences /social sciences or related fields.
* Good understanding of ICT issues and their impact on society
* Have 8-10 years of relevant experience
* Experience of work in managing content on ICTs for development
issues, including the MDG themes
* Strong editorial and portal management skills
* Negotiation skills/experience
* Leadership and team building skills
