Subject: Hello from Tunisia

Hi everyone... Sorry for the silence on the list over the last 48 hours,
but my Internet access has been more sporadic than expected. Right now I'm
in the opening session for civil society delegates at the preparatory
meeting (prepcom) for the World Summit on the Information Society in
Hammamet, Tunisia. Now that they have wi-fi set up, I hope to post reports
more regularly.

Right now, Renate Bloem of CONGO is giving opening comments. All day today
we'll be meeting to discuss the goals of civil society in the WSIS process.
Later this afternoon we'll break up into caucuses and working groups to
discuss particular content themes. We also hope to hear from
representatives from the ITU, the UN, and the WSIS secretariate. There are
about 50 or 60 people in the room; we haven't had any introductions so far,
but so far I've seen Renate, as well as Rik Panganiban of CONGO and Ralf
Bendrath of Germany.

Tomorrow morning will be the first day of government meetings, which will
last until some time on Saturday. I'll post messages to the list, as well
as to my blog (www.edwebproject.org/andy/blog/) describing what's going on
here. Meanwhile, please visit my blog if you're interested in reading about
my exploration of Tunis, Carthage and Sidi Bou Said over the weekend.

thanks,
ac
