Dear All,
Many of you are well aware that 'Bytes for All' (www.bytesforall.org) in
collaboration with Digital Opportunity Channel (www.digitalopportunity.org)
has opened a new discussion platform on 'Information Society: Voices from
the South' (www.dgroups.org/groups/IS/) and plenty of interesting
discussions are going on with participations from all across the world.
Each month we're selecting a topic (such as, information society, knowledge
economy, access, content, solutions etc.) that is relevant to Southern
countries and are discussing different aspects of that topic to prepare a
summary note at the end of each discussion. These summary notes would be
distributed to the concerned authorities and you can cordially invited to
join the platform by sending a blank mail to: join-IS@dgroups.org
In recent discussions into that platform, many participants have pointed
out the need for having intermediaries in taking the benefits of ICTs to
the grassroots people. These intermediaries would be working as a bridge
between solutions and people who cannot afford to buy or use those
solutions or cannot articulate their needs to formulate solutions.
Who in your view should be the intermediaries? NGOs, governments, the
private sector or community organisations?
Keeping in mind all these suggestions, we've created an online opinion poll
for you so you can help us to decide who should be the intermediaries at
the grassroots level. You can pick your choice from the number of
intermediaries suggested in our discussions and cast your vote. We'll
include the poll results in our reports.
You can even vote in the poll at: www.dgroups.org/groups/IS/
Best wishes,
Partha Pratim Sarker
