Dear friends,

this is just a note – still struggling to wake up from something like a
crippling nightmare. Since over a month, I am struggling with severe
computer problems.

I had tried to set up a replacement on an older computer, but the
replacement refused any network connections after I had spent a lot of
time and effort to get it going – so I could not use it either. I was
limited to short term web mails, no downloads to my computer to work on.

As nobody among the shops in Phnom Penh could help me, I took my
computer to the Sony Service Center in Bangkok on my way to the Global
Knowledge Partnership meeting in Rome, to pick it up one week later on
the way back. Though they said it was repaired, a quick check showed
that the CD went off as soon as we tried to use it. Which had meant
also: no security backups since some time ago.

Back in Phnom Penh, I made a total XP System Recovery (which, according
to the wisdom of Microsoft, destroys all content of the HD). After
re-installing again the applications I use, I finally downloaded many
hundreds of e-mails from my web mail account (I get most of the days
more than 100). But when I started to read, I immediately had a hard
disk failure. All new mail and everything else is lost.

If you sent to me anything during the last 2 weeks (and wait for a
response) please send it again.

Fortunately I have older data, and my address book, nicely backed up. I
can use them now from a different borrowed computer.

Norbert
