Dear Serena and all,

Greetings from APC WNSP and apologies for being quiet on this list. Like many of you, we've had a million things to atend to since Tokyo. I have tried to folow the discussion as much as possible though.

Thanks a lot for the energy in getting this together. I've consulted with my colleagues and APC WNSP will gladly add our organization to the endorsement.

On a personal note, I know some of the Malaysiakini staff from way back. They've fought very hard agains a lot of odds. They certainly deserve our solidarity in this critical time.

best to all,

Hi Sacha and all,

Hopefully the clean final version will be ready before noon Jan 25 (SAT). Please check your mails on the weekend, if possible, for endorsement of the statement against police raid on Malaysiakini.

Here are a few points for update of the situation.

Sacha, it'll be more efficient if you can try to update the draft with these points since you're in the process of revising it already.

1. Number of items seized is corret in the original draft.

3. Subsequent to the raid:

--the authority is investigating the editor-in-chief and the letter writer under the Sedition Act
--If convicted, the individuals involved would be liable to fine not exceeding RM5,000 or imprisonment for up to three years, or both
4. Malaysiakini office forced to move
--received a letter of eviction order from the landlord "PC Suria," which is now wholly owned by Nascom, a gov't-backed enterprise
formerly known as "PC Malaysia Bhd." The order was given on Jan 22 (two days after the raid), requesting the eviction because the
Malaysiakini was involved in "unlawful activities."
--According to the online media, the eviction will lead to a loss of RM 100,000 and two weeks of downtime.
--the media claimed that the efforts in contacting the PC Suria's managing director, its senior managers of it and lawyer in the past two
