Dear all,

Nice to have met you all in tokyo.
Particularly thanks to adam and izumi and yumiko in making all the
arrangements.

It's especially memorable working closely with some of you in the
content working group.
I have learnt so much from you.
Pity we did not have the chance to say goodbye properly.

As a Hong Konger, I personally have a lot of mixed feelings over the
taiwan issue of course.

Anyhow, I had the opportunity to be introduced to the leader of the
Chinese delegation on Wednesday afternoon after the closing (not the mr
ke who spoke). I explained to him the general feeling of NGOs etc. on
the matter, as far as I could.
He too explained his difficult situation in allowing Taiwan NGOs to
attend the regional conference (because it's against the whole nation's
policy).
He said they have started the negotiation process with the japanses
government on how to deal with taiwan's participation a few weeks before
the conference and have sought ways to reach a compromise. Although they
had approached the matter at a very high level, it was not very
successful.

He particularly asked me to convey the message to all NGOs that they are
not against the participation of Civil Society at all.
I think it's a pity that the message came out so badly.

Adam, I don't think my organisation could afford sending out
representatives to attend prepcom2. But would like to have the chance to
continually contribute, perhaps on line, if possible.

And if you would like to "piggyback" on some conferences, the one that I
organised in late August is a choice. Too late?

Cheers.
