Many thanks and Happy New Year everyone!

NEW GENDER AND ICT ONLINE DISCUSSION LIST CREATED BY WOMEN'S GROUPS
With barely two months to go before the Second Preparatory Committee=20
Meeting for the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) in February=
=20
2003, more strategies are utilised by women's organisations to further hone=
=20
the objectives and goals in relation to the upcoming World Summit on the=20
Information Society (WSIS).

The latest of these efforts is the new electronic mailing list called the=20
<Ngowomen@genderit.org>, created by the WSIS NGO Gender Strategies Group,=20
one of the groups strategising and organising their active participation in=
=20
the WSIS process.

The WSIS NGO Gender Strategies Group was formed at the first WSIS PrepCom=20
Meeting in Geneva in July 2002 as one of the sub-committees of the Civil=20
Society Coordinating Group (CSCG). The groups involved in this effort are:=
=20
the African Women's Development and Communications Network (FEMNET),=20
Agencia Latino Americana de Informacion, Association for Progressive=20
Communication-Women's Networking Support Programme, International Women's=20
Tribune Centre, and Isis International-Manila.

To build on the current initiatives on gender and ICTs and further enrich=20
discussions for the benefit of all women, the mailing list will serve as a=
=20
venue to:
=B7 Share information on the different activities around WSIS (including the=
=20
regional and Preparatory Committee meetings, the 47th session of the UN=20
Commission on the Status of Women, the Asian Social Forum, the World Social=
=20
Forum, the 8th International Congress of the World Association of Community=
=20
Broadcasters (AMARC) and other discussion spaces on gender and ICT,=20
particularly those pertaining to NGO women's initiatives
=B7 Develop women's lobbying positions and strategies around WSIS within the=
=20
civil society formations and bring in the civil society inputs to the=20
Gender Caucus discussions.
=B7 Share strategies, resources including documents, researches, and=20
publications as well as regular updates from civil society organisations to=
=20
ensure effective women's participation in civil society activities and NGO=
=20
women's participation in the governmental and intergovernmental processes.
=B7 Create a platform for strategising and organising various forms of=20
women's participation in the different gender and ICT forums.
